Code of Conduct

At Cardboard Citizens, we want all our activities and spaces to feel fair, safe, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone. Our workshops are, and always will be, free.

This Code of Conduct helps make sure our spaces are welcoming and supportive for all Members, staff, and volunteers. It’s based on our shared values: Bravery, Kindness, Inclusion, Equity, Growth, Connection, Joy.

What You Can Expect from Us:

  • A safe and welcoming environment.
  • Free workshops and activities where your voice matters.
  • Support to take part, whatever your background or circumstances.
  • Respect, fairness, and clear boundaries from staff and volunteers.

What We Ask of You:

Respect & Kindness

  • Treat fellow Members, staff, and volunteers with dignity and respect.
  • No bullying, harassment, or threats.
  • Be thoughtful when speaking; let others have their say.

Inclusion & Accessibility

  • Respect differences and avoid offensive language or behaviour.
  • Let us know if you need support or adjustments to take part — we’ll do our best to help.

Participation & Commitment

  • Try to arrive on time. If you can’t attend, please let us know.
  • Wherever possible, follow through on commitments.

Boundaries & Safety

  • We offer a sober space — please don’t attend under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, we will ask you to leave.

Confidentiality & Consent

  • Respect what others share — what is said in the room, stays in the room (unless it’s a safeguarding concern).
  • Don’t film, record, or photograph sessions. Sometimes staff may do this, but only with consent.
  • Don’t invite non-Members to Member-only activities.

Digital Respect

  • Don’t share others’ personal information or images without permission.

Our Members’ wellbeing is important to us. We offer:

  • Safeguarding, support, and help if something goes wrong.
  • If your behaviour causes concern, staff will talk to you and agree how to move forward.
  • Serious or repeated breaches may mean being asked to leave an activity or, in rare cases, suspension of membership.

Thank you for your help in making Cardboard Citizens a place of creativity, togetherness and possibilities.
