This 12-week course will cover foundations in theatre making practice. Each term will be led by a new artist who will share their craft and support you to develop your own toolkit of theatre making skills.
The focus of each term will vary but across the year you will have the opportunity to explore acting, directing, movement and facilitation.

What is theatre? Why do we make it? How do we make?
In this 12 week course we will interrogate what theatre is, what its function is in the 21st century – what makes theatre different from Netflix?
We will spend time developing our voices as artists & theatre makers – what do you want to say about the world?
We will equip ourselves with the tools to make a short piece of devised theatre which we will share at the end of the course. Over the duration of the course we will look at how to devise from text, from images, from objects, from music and from the world around us.
What you will need:
- A notebook and pen
- Very small prep time between sessions
- Clothes you don’t mind moving about it
Emma Baggott is a freelance theatre director. She trained at Goldsmiths, UoL and at the Young Vic.

Emma is a guest director at LAMDA, RWCMD, Guildhall School, The Brit School and Theatre Academy London. She is an Associate Artist at National Youth Theatre and a mentor director for National Theatre Connections. Emma has facilitated workshops for organisations such as National Theatre, Young Vic Theatre, RTYDS, NYT, Arts Ed, University of Kent and Goldsmiths College. Emma taught and directed at The Brit School for six years. Emma teaches because she is passionate about empowering artists from all walks of life to find and hone their voice.
