We are happy to share the first of the recordings from the Resistance Theatre project.

Resistance Theatre is a body of work created by our Members. Over the past year a group have been coming together to write short plays about the housing crisis and record music inspired by these issues – thinking about what might be ahead and what can be done to help.

A recording from the series will be published each week on the website and you will be able to hear the whole series on soundcloud. First up, we have Art for Arts Sake written by Clare Barstow and performed by Cardboard Citizens Members (see a full list of credits below).

More about the play

I was inspired to write Art For Arts Sake by a true situation that happened to me when I  was curating an art exhibition in Holborn a few years back. One of the artists featured in the  exhibition was homeless and ending up sleeping there which I didn’t  find out about till after it had happened. It made me realise how difficult it is for anyone in any situation and how often people don’t want to talk about it even with others who have experience of homelessness. After writing the piece I have been inspired to focus more on homelessness in my visual art as well as my creative writing. I hope to produce a multimedia piece this year.

I hope that people will listen to this audio project in a place where they feel chilled and relaxed and can take a moment to think about how more representation of homeless people in a positive manner is needed in the arts.
