Meet the Facilitator: Rebeka Dio

Rebeka Dio is a London-based actor, director and facilitator. Originally from Hungary, Rebeka comes from a street-theatre background where they worked with youth groups and theatres in Romania (Teatrul Merlin) and Hungary (Ort-Iki). In the UK they produced, directed, movement directed (Theatre 503, Peckham Fringe, Bitesize Festival, Hen & Chickens Theatre), composed and performed (Vault Festival, Guildford Fringe, OffBeat Oxford) across fringe theatres, pushing the boundaries of contemporary performance. Their acting credits also include performances in Poland (Gardzienice) and on screen (Dollshouse, The Three (Proletariat) Pigs).

Rebeka’s work explores themes of identity, folk tradition, climate justice and queerness. Currently supported by a DYCP Grant from Arts Council England, their practice is rooted in embodied physical & vocal discovery, collaboration & play. Their most recent works Transit & Places I Never Think About explore first-generation migrant displacement and experiences of queerness in the UK.

THE COMPANY: TRANSIT  is an Offie-nominated queer multidisciplinary theatre collective founded on a shared goal to bring about change by representing often overlooked communities. Through joy & playfulness, their practice encompasses an intersectional approach in order to challenge the pervasive structures of oppression. Working with oral history & personal narratives explored in music, movement, poetry & storytelling, TRANSIT performances aim to cultivate an environment where varying cultures and lived experiences can come together. Their work has been showcased at Camden People’s Theatre, Voila Festival, Applecart Arts and a recent commission for a new play by Theatre Voliere.
