We’re pleased to announce that we’ve been shortlisted for the final round of the Smiley Charity Film Awards for our short films Boiling Frogs (long-form category) and This Is What It Means, part of our More Than One Story series.
The Smiley Charity Film Awards – often referred to as the Charity Film Oscars – celebrate powerful, cause-driven storytelling. The awards have become a key platform for films that drive social change, with this year’s shortlist including films from Carers UK, British Red Cross, Greenpeace, Mind, and the National Trust, among others.
Each organisation entering the awards must align with at least one UN Sustainable Development Goal – for us, that’s No Poverty and Zero Hunger.
Boiling Frogs explores the impact of growing up in the shadow of domestic violence. 40% of women cite abuse as a factor in their experience of homelessness.
This Is What It Means is a call for justice, fairness and societal change, at a time when 14 million people- 21% of the UK population – are living in poverty. Being part of the Smiley Film Awards has helped us amplify our mission to change the narrative of homelessness, poverty, and inequality in the UK.
This year’s awards have generated over 50 million additional views across submissions, helping us to build on the 150,000 people reached during our 9-week campaign and further highlight underrepresented voices.
"If the people in charge were up to the job, their conscience could never preside over a society that allowed profit margins over people, housing markets over families, data over caring."
"Hearing different stories allowed me to fully understand how homelessness impacts individuals. Hearing people’s truths makes you confront a subject that’s often ignored. This film was insightful, moving, and thought-provoking. The quality and detail will resonate with a wide audience."
Our films will now be reviewed by a panel of expert judges to determine the winners in each category. The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony at Indigo at The O2, London, on Thursday, 20 March.
