In this costume design workshop with Bolu, we’ll explore the basics of costume design and how clothes can help tell a story on stage. We will look at how to understand a character and what clothes they might wear by analysing their personality, background and role in the story.
We’ll also explore simple ways to research different time periods and other elements that might influence what a character wears. Together we’ll work through how to choose colours, shapes, and styles that express a character’s emotions and journey. We will use a short script for a hypothetical play to help everyone create their own design for a paper doll. This will let you bring together all your ideas and make a small, personal design to take home!
