Please note that we have temporarily paused this project due to COVID. New dates to be announced soon.

Whitechapel Gallery are commissioning an artist to create an artwork in Angel Alley (the alleyway and courtyard are just up the road from Cardboard Citizens next to the Whitechapel Gallery), that resonates with local people. The artwork will engage with the theme of mutual aid (sharing back and forth of resources) and have a meaningful relationship to the history and heritage of Angel Alley and the local area. The project will focus towards creating a sociable future for the Alley, to continue its role as a space for people to gather.

Cardboard Citizens is looking to select a small group of Members to work with the artist over one week in February to contribute their ideas and develop this piece of artwork.

More Details:

  • There will be a pre-meeting with the group with dates TBC
  • Dates of the week intensive: TBC

You will be reimbursed for food and travel expenses during your participation in the project if you are selected.

This project is open to any Cardboard Citizens Member who is interested in art and in working on artist-led projects in the public realm and are available for the week intensive in 2022. There are a small number of spaces on this project and so therefore we are asking everyone to apply in order to take part and will select a group of Members from this.

To apply to be part of this project, please send a paragraph (no more than 250 words) or short video (no more than 2 minutes) to Bonny@cardboardcitizens.org.uk stating:

  • Why you would like to be part of this project
  • What skills/experience/ideas can you bring to the project
  • How this project could support you in your own Artistic journey (This can be any art form)

Kiri (Participation Producer from Cardboard Citizens) and Siobhan Forshaw (Curator: Community Programmes at Whitechapel Gallery) will hold one-to-ones with all Members who apply to help us decide who should be selected.

If you have any questions, please contact Bonny@cardboardcitizens.org.uk or call 07421383770.

We look forward to hearing from you!
