Making Music from Nothing: From Voice Note to MP3 – Creating your first demo

We’ll build upon the skills learnt in the first six weeks to look at creating a full demo that you can upload online for feedback, beginning your songwriting or spoken word journey.

You’ll be using Garageband (or alternative if using Android) to develop and arrange your very own song and by the end of six weeks through group work, 1-2-1’s and using your own time, you’ll have a demo ready to upload online with some artwork!

Workshops will cover topics like:
• Arranging a song and understanding song sections
• Recording your voice
• Editing and refining lyrics
• Writing melody: writing to existing tracks and to loops
• Using effects: echo, reverb, levels, panning
• Layering virtual instruments
• Creating atmosphere
• Working with others: collaboration
• Using samples and building grooves with loops
• Creating artwork for your single
• Thinking about next steps: further learning, social media for artists, lyric video
